Really, what is the point of them?
Dave Anderson, Bob Marshall-Andrews and John Austin all profess to be members of the Socialist Campaign Group, but have nevertheless nominated Gordon Brown in the upcoming leadership contest in the Labour Party.
What is the point of them being part of a minority organisation that exists to push the PLP to the left and bring some socialist priniciples back to parliamentary politics if they are simply going to join the herd of Labour MPs mooing their support of Gordon Brown's premiership?
Thankfully most of the rest of the Socialist Campaign Group have remembered why they joined that group in the first place and have declared their support for the left candidate, John McDonnell.
Lets hope that the two remaining SCG members yet to nominate, Austin Mitchell and David Hamilton remain true to their socialist ideals.

Indeed
Indeed - what is the point of them? I've emailed the MP from my one-time constituency, asking him to nominate McDonnell just so that there can be a genuine election. I wonder if he'll reply, now that his own candidature to the Deputy Leadership election has "more backbenchers than any other candidate." (according to a report in today's Guardian).
